Who Gives A Crap

Who Gives A Crap was started when three Melbourne mates learned that 2.4 billion people lacked access to a toilet (now 2 billion – progress has been made!). This represented roughly 40% of the global population, and tragically, it meant that approximately 289,000 children under five died annually from diarrhoeal diseases caused by poor water and sanitation. This amounted to nearly 800 children per day, or one child every two minutes.

Not on our watch, said Simon, Jehan and Danny, and in July 2012 they launched Who Gives A Crap with a crowdfunding campaign on IndieGoGo. Simon sat on a toilet in their draughty warehouse, refusing to move until they had raised enough pre-orders to begin production. After 50 hours and one cold bottom, they had raised over $50,000 and were ready to (toilet) roll.

They delivered their first product in March 2013 and have continued to grow since then. This growth is not only due to their toilet paper gracing bathrooms across the country but also because they donate 50% of their profits to help build toilets and improve sanitation in the developing world.

Although they are still expanding and now offer more than just toilet paper, they remain committed to their origins: toilet humour and making the world a better place.
