The Kaapi Project
Created by a team of Melbourne coffee enthusiasts, The Kaapi Project is on a mission to highlight the exceptional coffees of India and introduce its rich, centuries-old coffee culture to a wider audience.
They believe the Indian coffee tradition holds a wealth of unique practices, from bean selection and brewing methods to distinctive serving styles, many of which are surprisingly unfamiliar even to experienced Melbourne coffee lovers.
To ensure freshness and quality, The Kaapi Project roasts their coffees locally in small batches, as needed. They also proudly promote the traditional slow-drip brewing method, using the iconic Indian filter pot to create their signature decoction.

The BACKSTORY!
Back in 2017, the idea to craft Melbourne’s first Indian Filter Coffee was the result of a caffeine fuelled discussion between two mates Syl and Suraj, comparing Italian and Indian coffee cultures.
While it may have led Syl to wonder if South Indians were, if not more obsessed about coffee than (dare say) Italians, Suraj realised how underrepresented Indian coffee culture was, Down Under.
Thus began the project to craft Melbourne's first locally roasted and brewed Indian coffee (kaapi).
