Tjanpi Desert Weavers
Tjanpi Desert Weavers is a social enterprise of the Ngaanyatjarra Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (NPY) Women’s Council that enables women living in the remote Central and Western deserts to earn an income from fibre art.
More than 400 artists from 26 remote communities across roughly 350,000 square kilometres are involved. Tjanpi field officers visit these communities to purchase artworks, supply art materials, hold skills development workshops, and facilitate grass collecting trips.
The result? Wonderfully vibrant pieces of art that will absolutely light up any room. We’re talking one-of-a-kind baskets, stunning and playful sculptures, and serene wall hangings, all expertly crafted from native grass (Tjanpi means grass in the Pitjantjara language).
Tjanpi has a public gallery in Alice Springs, as well as an online store where customers from all over Australia can shop fibre art, jewellery, merchandise, and weaving kits.
